Night work gets asked for far more often than it is needed. It earns its cost in specific situations, and in others it is an expensive decision that buys nothing.
When night is the answer
- A single entrance with no alternative that cannot be even partly closed in working hours.
- An elevation directly over a waiting area, a restaurant or a busy reception.
- A commercial building whose peak is entirely daytime and whose evening is empty.
- A wide glazed elevation in direct sun all day, where the product dries before it is rinsed.
When it is not
Residential buildings are usually worse at night: light and movement below windows wake people, and complaints arrive faster than they would in daylight. And offices that empty after four do not need night work. Late afternoon is enough.
What changes in the execution
Night needs site lighting, coordination with security for access, and sometimes permits. Visibility is lower, so simpler elevations get scheduled at night and complicated ones in daylight. Those are technical reasons rather than a surcharge without one.
The middle option people forget
The weekend. It gives most of the benefit of night without the problems: the building is close to empty, visibility is full, and coordination is simpler. Before asking for night work, ask whether a Friday would do.
